An opportunity to gain impressive fitness data and assist with University research

I am an MSc student at the University of Portsmouth studying Sports Performance. Me and a colleague have put together a research project titled 'The influence of different sources of polyphenols on efficiency and performance during endurance cycling'

We are looking to recruit trained cyclists for the study where we are trying to determine if 2 supplements can improve cycling efficiency and performance. I was hoping that you may be able to help me and pass any details on or generate any interest amongst your members? Or put me into contact with a member of your club who would be able to.

The study will be beneficial to the Participants as they will receive a wealth of information regarding their training status. Firstly, we will determine their VO2max for them (a test that normally costs 150 - 200 pound at University laboratories!). During the same test we will determine their maximal power output (in Watts) and %'s of their maximum which can help with training. We should also be able to determine their lactate threshold and gross mechanical efficiency, as you will know 2 more key determinants of endurance performance.

After the initial VO2max test the testing will involve 20 minutes of sub-maximal cycling and then a 20km time trial. Therefore information on speed, cadence, power output and heart rate response during the 20km time trials can all be made available to the participants.

I have attached a participant information sheet which provides a more comprehensive overview of the study. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or any of your members do, I can be contacted via mobile: 07814686149 or by email: tom.clifford@myport.ac.uk.

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Tom Clifford

Awards for points scored on Club Time-Trials.

As you can see, that’s a lot of awards.  If you haven’t thought of racing yet or have not yet been involved in organising things for your club-mates why not come and see just how big some of these trophies are!

Our annual prize presentation will take place at the Victory Indoor Bowls Club on Friday 13th January 2012. All the club's silverware will be on display, some of it dating back to the 1920s. Attendance is free to all, including partners, and non-club members are also welcome.

For those who would like to make an evening of it, I have arranged for the resident caterers to provide a choice of chilli con carne and rice or lasagne and chips for £5.00 per head. Meal tickets are available from me on club nights or by post (email me for details). I need to let the caterers know numbers by 6th January.

The plan is to eat at 8.00pm and for the presentation to take place after that. Don't forget that the VIBC has a licensed bar (discounted for VIBC card holders).

I hope that you will come and cheer the award winners and celebrate another successful year for this historic club.

Details of how to get to the VIBC are on the Social page.

Go Ride & Clubmark

As an ongoing process, a web page specifically for the puposes of 'Go Ride & Clubmark Accreditation' has been created and posted.

Every page bears a link to that page (there's one on the left) where you will find the PNECC Club Constitution. This document is there to clearly define the Club's equity policy & openness; membership; Club management structure; property & funds; and financial policy.

The Club's future is dependant on its ability to attract new members, both young and old, and provide the best service for the present and future members. The Constitution is an open declaration of the Clubs determination to achieve this.

Not heard from PNE in a while via Email??

Been missing out and not getting any postings recently? Have we got your details wrong? It could either be you've changed your details and not let us know, or a typing error on the spreadsheet.

Can you let me know of any changes regarding your contact numbers, Email or home address details please.

We are getting a lot or returned Emails when weekly postings go out. I'd prefer you all to get the info we mail out, rather than you miss out on future PNECC events/gatherings.
